Your privacy matters, and Downly is built to need as little of your data as possible. This policy explains what we do and don't collect, why, and the choices you have. In short: no account required, only privacy-respecting analytics, and nothing about the media you download is stored.
You can use Downly without creating an account or giving us any personal information. We do not ask for your name, email or Instagram credentials to download content. We only receive the Instagram link you choose to submit and the standard technical details every website receives, such as your browser type and approximate request time.
When you paste a link, our server fetches the corresponding public media and streams it to your browser. We do not save the downloaded file, and we do not keep a history of the links you submit or the content you download. Media passes through and is discarded.
Downly uses a small amount of browser storage to remember your preferences — your chosen language and light or dark theme. We also use Google Analytics to measure aggregate usage, which may set analytics cookies; for visitors in the EEA and UK it runs in a cookieless mode by default. None of this is used to track you across other websites or for advertising, and you can clear this storage at any time from your browser settings.
To keep the service available and prevent abuse, our servers may briefly process technical request data, including a one-way hashed version of your IP address used only for rate limiting. This hash is held transiently in memory, is not linked to your identity, and is not sold or shared.
All traffic is served over HTTPS. Download links are cryptographically signed and expire within minutes, so they cannot be tampered with or reused. Because we store neither accounts nor downloaded media, there is simply very little data that could be exposed in the first place — the strongest protection of all.
Downly uses Google Analytics to understand aggregate, anonymous usage — which features are popular and roughly where visitors come from — so we can improve the service. It is privacy-configured: IP addresses are anonymized, advertising signals are disabled, and for visitors in the EEA and UK it runs without analytics cookies by default. Downly shows no ads and includes no advertising trackers. The media you download is fetched directly from Instagram's own content servers.
We retain no downloaded media and no submitted links. Transient technical data used for security is kept only as long as needed to protect the service and is then discarded.
Downly is a general-audience tool and is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your region). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Because we don't build a profile on you, there is little personal data to access or erase. You remain in control: you can clear the language and theme preferences from your browser at any time, and you can stop using the service whenever you like. We may update this policy as the service evolves or as laws change. When we do, we'll revise the date at the top of this page. Please review it periodically so you stay informed.
